El recorrido del Criterium Dauphiné: Un prólogo, una crono y cinco finales en alto (Perfiles)

El Critérium Dauphiné, que comienza el domingo, presenta un atractivo con cuatro finales en alto (etapas 1ª, 2ª, 5ª, 6ª y 7ª), un prólogo y una contrarreloj larga en la tercera etapa. Las dos últimas llegadas a Le Collet d’Allevard, previo paso por el Col du Grand Cucheron, a La Toussuire, tras pasar por el Col du Glandon, serán las decisivas. Tras el prólogo de 5,4 kilómetros inicial, la primera etapa tendrá un final en alto, en un col de Segunda Categoría, y en la jornada siguiente la meta será en una cota de Cuarta. La crono individual de la tercera jornada abrirá diferencias entre los favoritos, pero la carrera se decidirá en los tres días finales con tres llegadas consecutivas en alto. Especialmente exigentes serán las dos últimas, en Le Collet d'Allevard (HC) y La Toussuire (1ª), ésta previo paso por el coloso Col du Glandon-La Croix de Fer.

Contador se resetea

Tiene ganas Alberto Contador de comprobar la veracidad de un viejo aserto en el pelotón. «Cuanto mejor ciclista eres, menos te cansas». Y pretende una ratificación porque la siguiente parada de su agenda requiere certezas. El emperador del Giro quiere disputar y ganar el Tour. Pero necesita una garantía: la respuesta de su cuerpo a un volumen de trabajo extremo, dos grandes en tres meses.

Un ejercicio de fe sobre el que ya nadie se emplea. El doblete Giro y Tour solo se encuentra al alcance de las leyendas del ciclismo: Merckx (tres veces), Coppi, Hinault e Induráin (dos), y Anquetil, Roche y Pantani (una). Alberto Contador podría ser el siguiente.

Recién llegado de Milán, agasajado en su pueblo (Pinto) y en la sede de su Comunidad, el madrileño tramita ahora un periodo sin nubes. El Tribunal de Arbitraje del Deporte (TAS) ha fijado la vista de su caso para la primera semana de agosto y él tiene vía libre para asaltar su cuarta corona en el Tour. «El caso del clembuterol no afecta para nada en la decisión que se tome sobre el Tour —dice su hermano y mánager, Fran—. Se han respetado los plazos y la posibilidad de defendernos. Retrasar la vista nos viene bien para nuestros objetivos».

Será, pues, una decisión que incida en el aspecto físico del corredor. A Contador lo entrena un preparador valenciano, Pepe Martí, y lo dirige estratégicamente Bjarne Riis. Y existe una cierta inquietud sobre la acumulación de kilómetros y tramos de desnivel que ha afrontado el ciclista en el Giro. Demasiado trajín, que precisa un análisis.

Contador se someterá a un chequeo que delimite su recuperación. Dotado de una calidad muscular superlativa y de una potente mentalidad para superar situaciones de presión y riesgo, no debería tener problemas para restablecerse de los esfuerzos. Así opinan médicos del ciclismo que no olvidan el caso de Tony Rominger. El suizo arrasó en el Giro de 1995 y se hundió frente a Induráin un mes después en el Tour. «Por eso queremos ser cautos —dice Fran Contador—. Lo normal es que vaya al Tour. Pero si va, que sea en condiciones y para ganar».

El mejor ciclista del mundo pasará un test para medir su velocidad media de ascensión (el número de metros por hora que hace cuesta arriba —su baremo ronda los 1.850 metros—), sus niveles de ácido láctico (el termómetro del cuerpo que anticipa la fatiga) y su potencia en watios.

Contador ha subido los puertos del Giro a una velocidad parecida a la del último Tour, o incluso superior, al decir de avezados observadores del ciclismo. Es decir, en Italia ha conseguido uno de sus máximos puntos de rendimiento. Otra vez el fantasma de Rominger.
